Finding a Better Anvil Height
Просмотров 8 тыс.6 лет назад
The height of your anvil matters. It is a very personal measurement and it will change over time.
Forging the Golden Shamrock

A bit of timely smithin' to test the new stand and get ready for the upcoming holiday. -Now with Steps!
Mounting the Anvil

In part ducks; watch a blacksmith continue his struggle with a wooden creation and learn that there isn't any special trick to finishing a project. ~Still having A/V issues, your tolerance is appreciated.
Time For a New Anvil Stand
Просмотров 51 тыс.6 лет назад
Making an anvil stand from left over materials. I'd guess the cost of this project is about $35, seems affordable considering most commercially available stands are well over $100. This is the fourth stand of this design I've made. So, yeah, I'd recommend It.
Competing With Modern Goods

In this video; I make a curtain rod. An easy, quick, and inexpensive project. Should have saved the 8 bucks and watched my own video. Enjoy!
Double Six Dot Maker
Просмотров 6776 лет назад
About halfway through this video I use the previously made center punch to make 168 dots, twice-ish. A full set of Double Six dominoes is twenty-eight pieces. That's six dots per square inch... not bad for a dollar! Base material: 1x3/8 @ 60" A36
Center Punch from Low Carbon Steel

In this video we make a simple tool and harden it using the brine from the previous video.
Blacksmith Student Practise

An easy project to develop hand-eye coordination, hammer control, consistency, and stamina.
Displaying Your Work

What do you do when someone wants to own and display something you've made? This is one option.
A Hook for the Stages

A Pirate's life for me; something, something, something; with a Ho-Ho-oh never mind... (audio fixed... I hope.)
Blacksmith Sketching
Просмотров 3657 лет назад
When you want to make something you have a couple of choices, copy an existing design, or start sketching until something sparks your interest. For a lot of new creators, a sheet of blank paper can be the most intimidating tool in the shop. However, it is much easier than blacksmithing and with a little practice it’s easy to turn paper into an asset. The most difficult part of learning to sketc...
Can we use beach sand to annealing steel? It's damn hard to find vermiculite around here...😢
neat
nice explanation, thanks for showing
I had to come watch a second time, I couldn't remember where you messed up on your measurement, I'd have made the same mistake as you...👍🏻
9260...!!!!
Great! Thanks so much. Just starting and never thought about using my vise to make a round bar square. +1 sub
I believe he used the vise just to straighten the round bar, not square it up.
Why both glue & screw together?
Stronger.
Can't help thinking I'll here. ...Bean.....Mr. Bean
Really
Yes, Gary… Really!
Good enough for busting concrete.
Cheaper than buying S7 and easier than air hardening.
Loved the moment of struggle with the tape measure. Relatable. Lol
Lol!!
I'm disabled and I don't have a whole lot of time left on this planet. I buy my spring seal from places like Castle metals and other tool steel supply houses. I've done that, I've made steel Springs out of other Springs, it's a lot of work it's a lot of extra work I don't have to do.
Great for quenching cold chisels made from rebar. Able to chop concrete without dulling.
Say what you like, I’d trust a blacksmith over an engineer any day. They are also OFTEN wrong.
What is that..white thing ypu had mixed with water?
Very cool and unique trike. Very nice job. Hopefully you get great use out of them for many years to come. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge on. Keep making. God bless.
Молодец 👍💯👌👍💯👌
If the concrete is done correctly it is flat. Some jackleg pours it then it's not.
Basically this is a super fast quench?
The only question I have is you only have a 2” top to attach your anvil to.
A solid stump is replaced by a hollow stand constructed of a softwood like pine while simultaneously saying you’re a welder and could fabricate a stand. I’m not following the logic but if it works for you more power to you.
Had same reaction. Stump more better. Build metal base for stump to desired height.
What for that?
It's for rapidly cooling mild steel, which normally has a difficult time hardening otherwise. High-carbon steel is simple to heat-treat by dunking orange-hot steel into plain water or even heated oil. But mild still won't hold an edge unless you use this "speed quench" solution.
Works for quenching 4130 or chromoly-ish steel.
How is its fnished?
You are a clever man
Wonder where he is located. Would like to visit shop. winchandle@gmail.com
Misspell. Refflinghaus. I think they were taken over by Rigid. German design. Bought a 275# one from Southern Tool. It's gorgeous. can't wait to use it.
BTW nice leather apron
It's thick and good for protection, but otherwise very uncomfortable. Better options out there for less $$$.
Just got a new Rigid (Reflinghous?) anvil.. This is the best video Ive seen to set the anvil height. Hitting the wood and seeing whether the heel or toe hits first. When I grow up I want to have a super clean shop like this.
A chaotic shop gets in the way of the work.
Very quick, but good! Dont blame the camera for liking the stump, I have a stump just like that one and its extremely attractive! I cannot stop staring at it!
where do you get surfactant
...dishwasher rinse aid...
Salvaje
Que efectos produce la vermiculita a la forja, Saludos
Built this same stand from the anvilfire reference. Thanks for the "holdfast" design!
Harvard University should offer an Associate's Degree in Anvil-Stand Engineering, with a minor in Saw-Horse Engineering. You should probably make a secret compartment to hold your valuables.
The stump made me subscribe
I think this is the only commenter to have noticed the note about "sand"!
π d will give you the inside measurement of your circle and you'll be 1/2" short. For smithing purposes just take the diameter of the circle and x 3 it will give you close to the actual measurement to the centre of the material. Re the 11psi, you need to look at your setup. In an outfit like that your should be on about 3 to 5. Not being critical, just trying to help.
Great job showing how to measure,I do like your whole video Thanks
ruclips.net/video/MS3fHkISW1w/видео.html
seems equally valid
What is the surfactant?
dishwasher rinse aid, the kind I use is dark blue and not the citric acid kind
Parabéns ótimo trabalho 👏👏👏👏
Ай,красота какая!
Where can I get one of those mixers? LOL (:-D} Thanks for this video.
looks like you did a great job even with the glue wopps's. i can tell you how many times ive done that too. no worries! concrete would give you some weight too. but wont shift around as much.. just a thought if there is a next build.. did great ! thanks for sharing!
Nice. Peace and love from Liverpool England
Very nice job.
Thans for this video very beautiful this work saludos de uruguay
Does the dish soap have to be blue? Is the blue one different than like the green one? Genuine question
The standard version of the blue soap has given me the most consistent results.
I know this is an old Post, but another advantage of the blue is when the quench has been used a lot it and is going bad it turns a greenish color; built in indicator that doesn't show as well with the green
Thanks for the video. Good idea about the sand. I don't have many stumps here in Arizona either.
Amazing work on the saw and nice detail on mount , Impressed
